Next Reflex Dance Collective offers various educational options for schools and organizations. From this page you will find information regarding school workshops and performances, community workshops, residences and commissions. Our educational opportunities give participants the tools to look at movement through various lenses and encourage them to think about how dance relates to their life.

NRDC offers children and adult classes through Fairfax County Parks and Recreation. Classes will take place in two sessions and are located at Green Acres Center, 4401 Sideburn Rd, Fairfax, VA 22030 Click here to get directions.

Teen Jazz on Mondays from 7-8pm Taught by Holly Gilbert
Creative Movement (5-6 yrs) on Tuesdays from 4-5pm taught by Wayles Haynes
Teen Modern on Tuesdays from 6-7pm taught by Wayles Haynes
Ballet (3-4 yrs) on Wednesdays from 10-10:45 taught by Wayles Haynes
Creative Movement(3-4 yrs) on Wednesdays from 11-11:45 taught by Wayles Haynes
Jazz (7-10yrs) on Wednesdays from 5:30-6:30pm taught by Erika Surma
Adult Beginning Ballet on Thursdays from 8:30-9:45am taught by Holly Gilbert

School Performances and Workshops

NRDC offers various Workshops, Lecture Demonstrations, Master Classes, and Concerts that apply to the age level of each audience. All educational programs focus on how to watch dance and includes collaborative work between students and artists.

Lecture/Demonstrations

  • Writing and Dance: Designed for grades 9-12. Using critical thinking students use dance as a tool to enhance their writing skills.
  • Dance Through the Looking Glass: Designed for grades K-3. Students learn about dance through the eyes of Alice who meets different characters in Wonderland.
  • Elements of Choreography Designed for fine arts students. Audiences watch various pieces from Next Reflex Dance Collective’s repertoire and learn about different choreographic tools that the choreographer has used to construct the pieces.
  • Watching Dances Designed for all ages and communities. Audiences watch various pieces from Next Reflex Dance Collective’s repertoire.

Student Workshops

  • Creative Movement (K-12) is designed for grades K-3 to have fun, learn how to work with others and to begin to develop a personal movement style through choreographed and improvised movement sequences.
  • Modern Dance Technique (Grades 4-8) is designed for the beginner to intermediate dance student in grades 4-8. This course provides an introduction to the fundamental concepts of modern dance technique.
  • Elements of Choreography (Grades 9-12) is designed for the Intermediate/Advanced dance student, grades 9-12 who have an appreciation for dance in performance and would be interested in learning the basic elements of choreography.

    Concerts NRDC will perform a one-hour to two hour concert showcasing repertory in a theater space. Performances are designed to reach a general audience and can be geared to a specific age group.

    Community Workshops

    NRDC is interested in working with various organizations to promote dance education and awareness. We provide workshops to organizations interested in how dance can be a voice for, surviving an illness, creating partnerships or collaborating in the work place. Please contact us if your organization is interested in providing a dance opportunity to your employees, patients, or community.

    Residencies

    Inviting Next Reflex Dance Collective to be a company in residence at your school offers students to take part in classes and workshops provided by company members. Residencies include setting a work on your students and teaching a series of classes while we are in residency. Please contact us for more information.
